Every fifth smartphone in the world is fake, according to a study by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. Evgeny Rybkin, a representative of the Techo brand of smart devices in Russia, named the main features when choosing a smartphone and told RB.RU how not to run into a fake when buying a device through parallel import.

Roof specialist told what to look for when buying a smartphone

The list of key features of a smartphone varies depending on the purpose of the purchase. However, in most cases it is worth paying attention to the processor, memory, display, communication and battery, Evgeny Rybkin emphasized.

  • Processor: Qualcomm or MediaTek. According to the specialist, Qualcomm is considered one of the best, often put on flagship smartphones. MediaTek has been in the budget segment for a long time, but its latest generation of chipsets competes with and even surpasses Qualcomm in some aspects. In addition, it is important to choose the optimal amount of RAM for comfortable work – from 4 GB to 8 GB, Rybkin notes.
  • He observed various features of the screen. Matrix type – IPS for a suitable combination of contrast, viewing angle and price. To get the highest quality and contrast image, you should pay attention to AMOLED screens. Diagonal, pixel density, and resolution should also be considered. The higher the last two indicators are, the better the image will be.
  • For communication, it is desirable to support Wi-FI 802.11 n / ac / ax standards, Bluetooth 5.0 and higher. The optimal size of the battery is 5000-7000 mAh, which is enough for a full day of active use of the smartphone.

According to Rybkin, parallel imports do not necessarily contribute to the appearance of counterfeits on the market. “The process continues to be controlled by the State, only the manufacturer is taken out of the equation,” emphasized the specialist.

He mentioned some simple ways to check a smartphone before buying it. First of all, it is worth familiarizing yourself with the external characteristics of the selected model in detail; detailed fakes are not that common.

Secondly, be sure to crack the IMEI of the smartphone. Each manufacturer has its own service code that opens the engineering menu; they generally don’t work with fakes. You can check the internal characteristics of the phone (for example, with the AIDA64 application) and compare them with the declared ones.

Evgeny Rybkin also recommended paying attention to localization, the presence of pre-installed proprietary software. It would be useful to check the store itself, since buying a smartphone in well-known retail chains will significantly reduce the risk of running into a fake.
