280 Twitter characters are already history. At least for Twitter Blue users. The social network announced the possibility share messages with a maximum size of 10,000 characters — which would be equivalent to about 2,000 words — and added the ability to make text bold and italic. Also, of course, images or any other type of multimedia content such as GIFs or videos.

The truth is that for a long time, Twitter allowed Blue users to share tweets longer than 280 characters, which is the current limit for those users who don’t pay for a subscription. However, until now the limit was 4000.

Unlike Twitter Notes, which has a dedicated section Tweets with a length of 10,000 characters will appear on the social network like any other post.. Twitter, yes, will show a “Read More” button than these longer tweets so they don’t take up the whole page in the feed.

This is of course not the only feature exclusive to Twitter Blue users. Those who prefer to pay as little as $8 per month can also get verified, post high quality full-length videos, see less ads, and edit tweetsto name a few key benefits. Twitter will also include other exclusive features in the near future. Among them is the possibility that only those who have verification and therefore pay for Blue can appear in the For You section.

10,000 characters on Twitter comes with another novelty: followers.

Twitter subscriptions

In parallel, Twitter announced that the “Super Follow” feature will now be referred to simply as a subscription. Those accounts that meet a series of requirements will be able to activate the option so that their subscribers can pay a monthly fee in exchange for exclusive content. Creators can choose between installments $2.99, $3.99, or $9.99 per month, depending on the type of content they post. These, in addition, will receive 97% of the income for each subscription. Not counting, of course, the 30% commission that Apple and Google charge for every purchase.

Not every user will be able to activate a subscription in their profile. Function, again, limited to those Twitter accounts that match a number of requirements. Specifically, you need to have at least 10,000 followers and post at least 25 tweets in the last month. Subscriptions are only available in the United States for now, but the company has confirmed they will roll out globally in the coming months.
