It all started a few years ago when the first news about the negotiations appeared. It was noted that negotiations were initiated with the guidance of the South Korean government in response to the international situation, after Chinese companies producing LCD panels threatened Samsung’s dominance in the TV industry by increasing their prices. At the time, Samsung relied on LCD technology in its TVs, competing with LG, which was increasingly focusing on OLED, according to Ars Technica.

Now OLED technology has taken a “larger share of consumer spending” from LCD. Therefore, Samsung needs to pay more attention to this. So the new deal will only benefit companies: Samsung will benefit from LG’s advances, and LG will find a large buyer in return.

The deal could also lead Samsung and LG to partner up to launch new types of WOLED TVs in the next few years.
