In March, Elon Musk registered a startup in the field of artificial intelligence. The company was called X.AI, and the American billionaire is still listed as the sole director of the company.
According to the Wall Street Journal, citing documents, the startup is registered in Nevada. The secretary to the CEO of X.AI is Musk’s right-hand man, Jared Birchall.
Earlier, the Financial Times wrote that the head of Twitter plans to launch an artificial intelligence startup that could compete with ChatGPT developer OpenAI. To do this, the billionaire brings together a team of engineers and researchers in this field.
Musk reportedly brought in “about half a dozen” DeepMind experts from Britain (owned by Alphabet), including Igor Babushkin. In addition, the entrepreneur bought “thousands of Nvidia GPUs” needed to create a large language model.
The head of the startup is in talks with investors SpaceX and Tesla to finance X.AI.
The FT notes that the project will likely use Twitter content as data to train its language model and use Tesla’s computing resources. The connection to the social network is also evidenced by the fact that after the purchase, Musk changed Twitter’s name to X Corp. in internal documents.
Elon Musk is one of the founders of OpenAI at the end of 2015. However, in 2018, the billionaire left the company. The official reason for the decision was a “conflict of interest” with Tesla.
