The attackers click the link where they install a remote access program and a virus on the victim’s phone.
It all starts when the scammers call and pretend to be a bank employee to notify the transaction notifications that the subscription has expired. They send a link in Messenger and after installing the program on the phone, they are asked to check the settings in the application.
Thus, one of the victims, a 62-year-old man, lost 291 thousand rubles. It did not immediately detect the withdrawal from the card, as there were no notifications. Police have already filed a criminal case under the “massive fraud” clause. The maximum penalty for this is 6 years in prison.
Against this background, experts remind that caution should be exercised and personal data and passwords not disclosed to third parties. It is also recommended that you do not follow suspicious links and install anti-virus programs on your devices from there.
