The Ryzen Z1 Extreme has eight Zen 4 cores, 16 threads, 12 RDNA 3 graphics cores, and 24MB of cache. The processor promises graphics performance of up to 8.6 teraflops, comparable to the Sony PS5’s 10.28 teraflops and well above the 1.6 teraflops found on the Steam Deck.
The regular Ryzen Z1 has six cores, 12 threads, four graphics cores and 22MB of cache, giving a theoretical 55% increase in graphics performance compared to what’s used in Valve’s handheld.
With the Ryzen Z1 Extreme, gamers will be able to comfortably play demanding games like Red Dead Redemption 2 at low settings above 60fps and at 720p resolution, according to AMD.
The new items are temporarily exclusive to Asus, but AMD confirms the possibility of collaboration with other partners in the future.
Pricing and availability details of the Asus ROG Ally gaming laptop with AMD Z1 and Z1 Extreme processors will be announced on May 11.
