Honkai: Star Rail is HoYoverse’s next big title. The game takes players on a space adventure with turn-based combat. a very different approach and theme from the fantasy world Genshin Effect.

On the other hand, many elements of Star Rail are practically direct transformations of mechanics already featured in Genshin Impact. With this in mind, Voxel has prepared an overview that points to the common points of the two games; this is a factor that can make many people feel at home.

HoYoverse — the miHoYo multiverse

Before Genshin Impact, HoYoverse – still miHoYo – was a relatively small developer. Their most successful title was Honkai Impact 3.rdIt is the third game in the Houkai Gakuen series to reach the West for smartphones like Guns Girl and Guns GirlZ.

While previous titles were simpler, Honkai Impact was miHoYo’s first fully 3D game developed in Unity and Autodesk Maya. With this one Genshin’s strategy to cut costs in production was to use ready-made assets., recontextualizing models. But the measure has become one of the studio’s trademarks.

So now all your projects like Zenless Zone Zero and Star Rail have the same character art style, even making use of the names. This created a kind of miHoYo’s multiverse justifies the new production company name, HoYoverse. Meanwhile, Honkai: Star Rail has learned a lot more lessons beyond character art.

Honkai: Star Rail x Genshin Impact — key similarities

All the experience gained, especially Genshin Impact, was applied by the studio on Star Rail. This includes almost the same launcher, endgame mechanics, microtransactions and monetization system via gachapon.

Interface

The user interface (UI) of the new game is the first thing that stands out. Other than the different icons, the UI is essentially the same as Genshin in terms of both on-screen information and many menus and tabs for character management.

Honkai: Star Rail uses almost the same user interface as Genshin Impact.

Cones of Light, Relics and Eidolons

Still in the UI area, the weapons tab is practically the same as well. Changes include the name, because light conesand some secondary qualities new turn-based combat system.

Weapons are named Cones of Light, but retain Genshin's stat structure and management.

Just like the weapon system, the artifact interface returns, but under the name Relics. The principle is the same, but instead of five slots for items in Star Rail, the player can equip six different items to improve their character’s attributes.

Genshin's Artifacts Leave Their Place on Star Rail

Constellations also return to end the similarities in the character evolution system, but they are now called Eidolons. we have it again six levels that can be unlocked by shooting repetitive characters in gacha roulette. Each level adds new abilities or enhancements to that particular character.

Shooting recurring characters in Star Rail adds levels of Eidolons, equivalent to Genshin's constellations.

earning money

Like other HoYoverse games, Honkai: Star Rail has gachapon roulettes and built-in microtransactions as a money making system. Instead of prayers, Star Rail uses Warps to summon new characters and cones of light – weapons.

Star Rail character roulette follows the same style as Genshin.

Like Genshin Impact, your new title is a standard header with the most common 5-star characters and rotating banners. It looks like the first poster for the final release of Star Rail will be the same one that was available during the testing periods, putting Seele in focus.

Trailblazer Power is the equivalent of Genshin Impact Resins.

To purchase passes used in Warps, you must spend Stellar Jades as a season pass reward or the equivalent of Primordial Gems obtained directly in the shop. for Star Jades are also required for other micro-operations like reinstalling Trailblazer’s Power. (Resins) or buy skins in the future.

game mechanics

The last relevant elements Genshin veterans will recognize are the Calyxes, Corrosion Caverns, Quests, Synthesis, and Forgotten Corridor:

  • Calyxes and Corrosion Caves: quests where players face challenges to obtain relics, money and evolution items to replace Genshin’s Domains and Ley Lines.
  • Tasks: Equivalent to Expeditions, here you can send characters on quests and get resources for Syntheses and other minor mechanics.
  • synthesis: Modify Genshin’s cooking and chemistry systems.
  • Forgotten Hallway: perhaps the most relevant resemblance to the endgame, Spiral Abyss gives way to the Hall of the Forgotten. Here, players face hordes of enemies and earn evolution items and in-game currency.

Finally, season pass systems and adventure levels are also available on Star Rail. Battle Pass follows the same model as other games. For free trail and a second paymentwith additional rewards.

Adventure Levels offer new mechanics similar to the one in Genshin, as well as guaranteeing some evolution items and materials. Therefore, it is a very important element in accessing all the content of the game.

Honkai: Star Rail is now available for Android, iOS and PC via the Epic Games Store and custom client. The PlayStation 4/5 version has been confirmed, but there is no official release date yet.
