The company was also accused of allowing underage users to sign up. The Italian institution claims that there is no legal basis for collecting and storing personal data from users for the purpose of “educating the platform”.
OpenAI had 20 days to comply with the Italian government’s decision, otherwise it would have to pay a 20 million euro fine. But mid this month, the agency decided that ChatGPT could be re-established in the country if the situation was resolved by April 30, and it did.
