The film “Reborn” was released in Russian distribution.

It was shot with the production of the endless media content producer Timur Bekmambetov. This is a picture that combines a fantastic detective thriller and a religious drama.

We are looking into whether the Russian director Yegor Baranov managed to place such important components in one project. About everything in order.

This is not fiction, although the authors foresaw it for us

History tells about the near future, in which the church finds a way to resurrect dead people in the future.

What is the movie about: The Vatican finds a way to resurrect modern dead people. The first to come back to life is little Nick, who died in a car accident.

A few years later, the world was divided into two camps: the defenders of the Vatican and the human right to a “second chance” and opponents. Among the first is Nick’s father, Stanley, who became a minister of the Church of the Resurrected. When one of his parishioners commits a massacre, Stanley learns that this is not the first time he has been discovered.

The Vatican is trying to cover up these cases, while at risk of family loss, sustainable financial means are discovered to uncover a global conspiracy, the consequences of which have become a disaster for civilization.

The film can become interesting and exciting if the production team
Timura Bekmambetova, who does not want to cross science fiction, dramaturgy and thriller.

First, the film positions itself as science fiction. Sounds logical. The Vatican finds a way to resurrect modern dead people. Why not fantasy? But, unfortunately, this is only the beginning of the film and this event is given simply as an axiom. Learned and that’s it. No details and details of the miracle are revealed to the viewer. Everything stays behind the scenes.

Moreover, it takes about 10 minutes timekeeping.

Fans of science fiction and the supernatural will not like this production.

This is not a social drama, although the prerequisites for it were

Okay, the filmmakers omitted the resurrection part. Do they sometimes focus on social adjustment?

After all, we have news reports, YouTube interviews, reports from the streets. People are dissatisfied, people are in fear, people are demanding the return of the familiar world. Without this, your Catholic “devilry”.

A kind of chronicle of the beginnings of the madness of a shocked society – revealing, rebellions, violations of the agendas of a new Big Brother in the form of a church that controls everyone and everything. A great reason for discussion within the film, and after the screening. But all this is blurred, shown in passing, in the background.

Of course, meeting the sarcastic comedy Don’t Look Up would be blasphemy. But the potential Reborn movie was about the same. Do you read? Great philosophical potential.

The story could just roll over an imperfect society and every person, in particular, about change and social networks, faith, forgiveness and the approaching apocalypse.

In addition to the “news” that believers in Islam baptize after death, just to get the opportunity to bring a person back to life, the scriptwriters do not take risks. The viewer hears from the screen only the question of morality and ethics to get about whether a second chance is possible for a deceased person. But there is virtually no discussion on this subject.. But it turns out a very boring detective component.

This is not a detective, although it is being investigated at the crime scene.

The main action of the film is a slow and boring investigation. After the incident committed by his ward, the hero of the picture turns out to be in the past. And that might be interesting to watch. If not for one, but.

The film was shot in a special screenlife genre. The viewer sees all the events in the film only through the screen of the protagonist’s laptop or smartphone.

This is a signature style that has already become a familiar genre for Timura Bekmambentova. It was found that Timur can direct the film director Egor Baranov in the right direction – to make the film interesting, not boring and diverse.

Yes Yes. It is this value on the monitor that must be restored, but alas. The viewer sees how the hero googles, reads the news, calls on FaceTime. Then he googles, reads, calls again. And so in a circle. No highlight. Only talking heads and summary of textual information.

There is, of course, a strange metaverse and a VR church, but it looks lousy and cheap, and there is practically no semantic load to take. They are probably added in the film to slightly increase the monotony of the stream and be in trend.

The detective ball unwinds, but the hero sits in one place. The viewer 90% of the time sees only the interfaces of programs and the main character sitting in his ascetic house. All explored passages are ordinary, there is not a single moment that causes surprise or shock.

Pre-say-zue-mo!

In other films about genres, the authors do not let the viewer get bored. Heroic research turns into a careful study of social media pages (literally under a microscope!), vivid flashbacks can be reviewed in new locations, and recordings no longer become less dramatic and tense than car chases.

However, unfortunately, we only have to drink the protagonist, who throws from one problem to another.

Due to stupidity and alcohol, the main character at the very beginning of the film, in fact, destroys a pure family. And what does he do years later? Nothing, no change. Spectator by group cannot develop to this character no sympathy.

Garbage that doesn’t deserve attention

At the exit, we found a detective story that does not include the maximum conspiracy mode and does not have a single unexpected twist and drama that does not catch on.

But perhaps the film’s greatest weakness is its forecast. Here the authors unexpectedly surprise. The film ends as if the screenwriter is just didn’t figure out how to turn the plot aroundThe film’s budget simply ran out and the writers hastily chose the end credits.

The picture could become a hit if the authors risked seriously discussing the morality of a second chance. The picture would have been a box office success if the detective had surprised with cool twists or shocked with a denouement.

But alas, “Reborn” is just a passing low-budget disappointing story, under which you can just fall asleep at the cinema. Great idea, poor implementation and absolutely unnecessary chosen genre of screenlife history.
