The volume of money transfers from Russia to Kazakhstan in March 2023 reached 12.2 billion tenge (or $27.5 million), representing a 2.7-fold increase over the year, or 168%. Such data is contained in the statistics of the National Bank of Kazakhstan, to which RBC refers.

The volume of money transfers from Russia to Kazakhstan almost tripled

In dollars, growth was 171%. The figures were obtained from an analysis of transfers through the Zolotaya Korona, Contact, Unistream and other systems (in March 2023, 61.6 thousand transfers were made).

Russia in March turned out to be the leader in terms of the volume of international transfers to Kazakhstan: the share in terms of volume is 41%, in terms of the number of transfers – 54%.

In the first quarter of 2023, 33.9 billion tenge were transferred from Russia to Kazakhstan, 300% more than the indicator for the same period in 2022.

For all of 2022, 357 billion tenge, or around $775.4 million, were shipped from Russia to Kazakhstan, which was a record since at least 2014; there are statistics from this period. The dollar figure is 6.8 times the volume of transfers sent to this country in 2021.

The main reasons for the growth of transfers are the relocation of citizens from Russia to other countries, the opening of cards in Kazakhstan, as well as the now popular service for buying certain goods abroad, which are not available in Russia due to sanctions. .

As previously reported, in 2022, residents of the Russian Federation withdrew more than $23 billion to Kazakhstan, Georgia, Uzbekistan, Armenia, and Kyrgyzstan through money transfer systems. The amount of funds withdrawn has become a record for each state since the years when the countries began to keep the relevant statistics.
