OpenAI, the developer of the popular ChatGPT chatbot, ended 2022 with a net loss of $540 million, The Information reports, citing people familiar with the matter.

Compared to 2021, the loss of OpenAI has doubled. In 2022, the company was able to achieve revenue of just $28 million.

OpenAI’s expenses are related to the development of ChatGPT, for which it hired leading specialists from Google, the publication notes, adding that OpenAI’s expenses will continue to grow.

According to Reuters, OpenAI expects to generate revenue of $200 million in 2023 and increase it to $1 billion by 2024. The company hopes to increase revenue by selling access to ChatGPT.

OpenAI, with a current business valuation of $27 billion, may receive the status of Silicon Valley’s most expensive startup, The Information writes.
