As reported by users, WhatsApp is expected to discontinue iPhones running iOS 10 and iOS 11 on October 24 this year. Screenshots shared on social networks report that mobile phones must be updated to continue using the application.

It is also possible to verify information on WhatsApp support pages. According to the statement, app will now only support mobile devices running iOS 12 or later. For other operating systems, WhatsApp requires Android 4.1 or later and KaiOS 2.5.0.

Apple is currently rolling out iOS 15, which is compatible with Apple devices on the iPhone SE (1st generation and later), iPhone 6s and later. In this case, iPhone 6 and iPhone 5s users, for example, can update their device to iOS 12 and keep the app running.

iPhone 5 users that launched with iOS 6 and updated to iOS 10 will need to switch their smartphones to continue using WhatsApp as update support for the model has ended.

What will WhatsApp do with old iPhones?

Before ending support for these systems, WhatsApp said users will be “pre-notified and reminded several times to update” directly within the app.. On its support pages though, the platform recommends that users have the “latest version available” of iOS.
