VK intends to create a network of data processing centers (DPCs) in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Now the company is engaged in the purchase of land for construction. The new centers will be commissioned in 2025, sources told Vedomosti.
The launch of the project can cost the company 15-10 billion rubles. Now renting a rack costs the company 85-100 thousand rubles a year, estimated Comfortel’s general director Dmitry Petrov. The company rents about 3 thousand racks and annually spends 3-3.6 billion rubles on them.
The company can invest up to 40 billion rubles in the construction of centers within a few years, suggested Stanislav Bratchikov, product manager at Linxdatacenter. This amount consists not only of the cost of acquiring servers, but also of land, power supply and replacement of equipment during operation.
The launch of its own centers is due to the fact that the VK management intends to reduce rental costs and turn them into capital expenditures for the construction of its own facilities, experts say. At the same time, VK is likely to remain in the commercial data center market as a major tenant customer.
