Legislators admitted that we are talking about high rates. Missouri Senator Josh Hawley stated that artificial intelligence could be as transformative as the invention of the internet. He also noted that AI could go one of two ways: a new printing press or the atomic bomb.

Altman advocated for a specific type of legislation that would balance security considerations with broad access to technology, while supporting the regulation of ChatGPT and artificial intelligence. He proposed new security, testing and licensing requirements for AI developers to level the playing field, but stressed that the benefits of AI outweigh the risks.

However, other experts, such as former New York University professor Gary Markus, urged lawmakers to urgently address the security of AI and not repeat past mistakes when regulating social media.
