The ZTE Red Magic 8 Pro comes with a case, a clip for opening the SIM card tray, a quick start guide, a 65W charger and a cable. This smartphone is somewhat reminiscent of the Galaxy S23 Ultra, but the corners are not rounded, but flat. It also has a headphone jack, touch triggers.
If you’re looking for a smartphone for every day, the ZTE Red Magic 8 Pro might not be for you. It is quite large and quite heavy on its own.
The screen of the ZTE Red Magic 8 Pro has a refresh rate of 120 Hz. It has a sufficient margin of brightness and you can use it outdoors in daylight without any problems. Despite the option to reduce flicker, the PWM of the smartphone does not shrink.
But the Red Magic 8 Pro’s strengths are performance and cooling. The device runs on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and shows excellent results in tests. Memory options for this smartphone include 12/256GB and 16/512GB. Even with the cooling system turned off under load, the maximum temperature was 46 degrees.
As for games, you can run any project at maximum settings. However, you will have more different chips specially designed for players. For games, this device is ideal. However, it does not have full-fledged stereo speakers: the upper speaker is of lower quality compared to the main (lower) speaker, although the sound margin is serious.
I chose it instead of advertising.
The main camera in the Red Magic 8 Pro is based on a 50 MP Samsung GN5 sensor with f/1.88 aperture. True, without optical stabilization. The same sensor, but with an optostaub, is installed as the main camera on the Samsung Galaxy S22, S22+, S23 and S23+.
In addition, the device has an 8 MP ultra-wide and 2 MP macro module. The front camera is hidden under the screen and this technology reduces the quality of the photo taken from this lens.
The expert compared the Red Magic with the Xiaomi 13 Lite in terms of photo quality. In terms of detail, daytime shots with a wide-angle camera are definitely better on Xiaomi. But with the best possible lighting on the main camera, the photos on both smartphones are almost identical. That is, the average user of such cameras will be more than enough. Everything comes out very close in quality and night mode.
Interestingly, you can record video at a maximum of 8K (although there is still no stabilization in this mode). However, you cannot shoot video on a wide-angle camera – only on the main camera.
The battery of the Red Magic 8 Pro has a capacity of 6000 mAh, it holds the charge well. The smartphone lasted more than 22 hours while playing YouTube videos at 1080p at 50% brightness. From zero to 100%, the device charges in 40 minutes.
The ZTE Red Magic 8 Pro is not an option for everyone. But the game is good when compared to smartphones.
