Jeff Bezos’ aerospace company Blue Origin has awarded NASA a contract to develop a lander for the Artemis lunar program. The value of the contract is 3.4 billion dollars.
The company will have to design, develop and test the Blue Moon lander, which will have to meet NASA requirements for a repeat-mission landing system. The collaboration also includes an unmanned demonstration mission ahead of the Artemis V mission in 2029.
- In 2021, NASA moved the date of the manned flight to the moon with a moon landing to 2025. Company spokesman Bill Nelson attributed this to wasted time working with SpaceX Elon Musk on a contract to develop a module. to land on the moon due to the Blue Origin lawsuit filed by Jeff Bezos.
- Blue Origin attempted to challenge SpaceX’s choice as the developer of the lander for NASA’s new mission to the moon. Def Bezos’ company also submitted a bid for the task, as did defense contractor Dynetics. Both companies challenged this decision in the US Chamber of Accounts, but it dismissed the complaints. Then, in August, Blue Origin went to trial.
