An employee of the Institute of the Human Brain said that the vitamins added to the drops practically do not penetrate the eye due to the hemato-ophthalmological barrier. NP Bekhtereva RAS Ilmira Gazizova.
The ophthalmologist said that drops with vitamins act only on the surface of the eye: on the conjunctiva or on the cornea or on the eyelids. So, according to him, you can treat an ulcer or corneal erosion. At the same time, vitamins can help only in combination with other drugs.
This is due to the hemato-ophthalmic barrier, which does not allow any extra substances to enter the eye cavity, thereby protecting the intraocular membranes. Gazizova said that doctors prescribe capsules or injections to deliver the vitamins to the eye area.
An exception to the rule are preparations containing taurine and selenium. These substances penetrate very well from the cornea into the lens and preserve the protein bonds within the lens. Therefore, such drops are often prescribed to patients with the first form of cataracts.
