Apple just unveiled iOS 17 in their conference keynote. Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). This is Apple’s next major iPhone hardware update and will be publicly released in the fall along with iPhone 15. However, those in Apple’s Developer Program can get the iOS 17 beta today, and those enrolled in Apple’s Software Beta Program can get the beta in the coming weeks.

Apart from the usual bug fixes and improvements, iOS 17 also brings a lot of new features. Here’s a rundown of all the major changes in iOS 17.

Highlights include redesigned contact cards and live voicemail.

Your address book is getting an update with a new feature called banners, which turns your contact information into eye-catching, marquee-like images that appear full screen on your recipient’s iPhone when you call them. There’s also a new live transcription feature for voicemail that allows you to view a transcript of a message left by a caller in real time. You can exit or answer the call.

  • Some messaging updates include voicemail transcripts similar to those introduced with the Pixel 7 series and a host of new features called “Registration” that help communicate your location and current status to whoever you’re meeting.
  • Stickers are getting an overhaul so you can now add any emoji or photo clippings as “stickers” placed in iMessages or anywhere on the system.
  • AirDrop is getting an update to sending contact information, smartly named NameDrop, which will send your chosen email addresses and phone numbers (and your poster) by simply pairing two iPhones together. Photos can be shared in the same way, and if the file is large, it is now possible to go out of reach while the download continues.

  • iOS 17 also includes keyboard updates, including improvements to AutoCorrect. It’s now based on the new language model, as well as a simpler shortcut to return to the original word you entered if needed. Dictation also uses a new AI model.

  • There’s a new app called “Journal” that automatically suggests moments you might want to mark in a journal entry. Your entries can include photos and activities, and you can set reminders to start writing. It also has end-to-end encryption for added security.

  • StandBy is a new charging mode that turns the screen into a status screen with date and time. It can display real-time activity information, widgets, smart batteries, and automatically turn on when your phone is in landscape mode while charging.

  • Siri is also getting a boost, finally allowing you to say “hello” from “Hey Siri” and it recognizes sequential commands.
