Chinese electronics manufacturer Xiaomi and traditional German photography brand Leica have announced a strategic partnership for the launch of new products. With the alliance, Xiaomi will launch smartphones based on the company’s lens technology, which specializes in photography.

In addition, it also tried its own venture in the mobile phone market last year – but only with a model called the Leitz Phone 1, whose distribution is quite limited.

In the statement, there is no detail about the duration of this cooperation with Xiaomi. There’s also no word on what components Leica will act on and whether it will also encourage software innovations.
