If you have an iPhone, you have probably had to explain more than once why you have to dictate the password for your Wi-Fi network, and not just share a QR code, as with other mobile phones. Right off the bat, Apple doesn’t give us that option, as manufacturers like Xiaomi or Samsung do. Fortunately, there is a way.

You can generate a QR code for your Wi-Fi password using the tools provided by Apple. And what if the feature doesn’t exist in iOS, Apple gives us more tools to create our own. One of the most powerful of these is the Shortcuts app, which, in addition to allowing us to create many automations, also allows us to convert our Wi-Fi password into a QR code to share it with anyone. Actually, you can turn anything into a QR.

If you do, remember that you must have iOS 12 or higher. Previous versions of iOS didn’t have the Shortcuts app, so you won’t be able to follow the guide. Also, this procedure is valid as on iPhoneand also on iPad so you can follow it on any device of your choice.

How to Generate Your Wi-Fi Password QR Code on iPhone

  1. Open the Shortcuts app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Now click on section Gallery at the bottom of the screen. Here we will download the already created shortcut so you don’t have to do it yourself from scratch.
  3. Write WiFi in the top search bar (including “-“).
  4. You will see a label called WiFi QR code. The description briefly explains that “Convert your Wi-Fi password to a QR code.” Just what we are looking for.
  5. Click the icon A plus (+) to add it to shortcuts.
  6. Go to tab My linksin the bottom bar.
  7. touch WiFi QR code.
  8. You will be prompted to enter a name for the connection, although the shortcut should do so automatically. If everything is correct, click on Smart.
  9. You will now need to enter the password for your Wi-Fi network. Be careful not to make mistakes. touch Smart when you’re done.
  10. Your QR code will be successfully generated. However, now you need to save it to your gallery to share it or find it when you need it. To do this, click on the image.
  11. Now select the “Share” button at the bottom left corner of the screen and then click on Save Image.

You will be all set. If you want someone to connect to your Wi-Fi network, just show your QR code to friends and family to be scanned. This is a very convenient way to get around the problem created by Apple. It’s always interesting to see how users manage to get around some of the limitations of operating systems, and with a lot of creativity and ingenuity.
