Twitter isn’t the only platform working on a button to change previously posted posts. WhatsApp, the messaging app owned by Meta (Facebook), is also developing a feature that will allow edit those messages that have already been sent to the recipientas it turned out wabetainfo. The portal has also shared some important details about the feature, as well as various screenshots showing the location of the option and how it works.

The WhatsApp message edit button seems like an additional option to the ability to delete previously sent chats. In particular, it will allow you to correct poorly worded texts, typos, or spelling errors without deleting the original message and sending a new one. Function will appear when the user clicks on a specific chat , next to the option to copy or get more information. By clicking the Edit button, the content of that message will reappear in the edit text box. Subsequently, the sender will need to press the send button and the message and WhatsApp will replace it.

wabetainfo ensures that, at least for now, the function does not show edit history. Therefore, neither the sender nor the recipient will be able to see the original message or previous changes. It’s also not clear if the messaging app will show a notification as soon as this text is edited, as it happens in Slack, Discord or Telegram, for example. WhatsApp, on the other hand, can set a time limit for editing this message, as it already does with the ability to delete them.

WhatsApp wanted to include a button to edit messages 5 years ago

Curiously, this is not the first time WhatsApp has offered a button to edit messages. Actually heThe company also suggested including this feature in the app five years ago., although it was ultimately abandoned. However, this feature is still under development. Therefore, it may take several months to reach all users. Yes, it will be available on all WhatsApp compatible devices: iOS, Android and various desktop versions (web and app).

On the other hand, the ability to edit messages in WhatsApp will make the ability to permanently delete them primarily intended for delete those chats that we regretted sending or that for some other reason we don’t want the recipient to read.
