The foldable device segment is becoming increasingly interesting with offerings like the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra or the OPPO Find N3 Flip, to name just two examples. There are also interesting cases, like the Razr 40 from a Chicago company, which we have been testing for some time.

If we had to define it somehow, we’d say it’s an affordable entry in the category with a list price of P16,999 in Mexico (for reference, the Razr 40 Ultra can be found for P29,999). But what other features stand out?

Inner screen

The interior display is one of the most striking elements of the Razr 40, especially due to its elongated format. As for the technical specifications, it is a 6.9-inch pOLED panel with a refresh rate of up to 144 Hz and HDR10+ compatibility.

When playing an episode of the series, there are no complaints: color reproduction is good, contrast is optimal, and moments of action, if applicable, are smooth.

The sound, despite being compatible with Dolby Atmos, is not as accurate as other smartphones of this type. Either way, he’s still going strong.

For those who tend to browse websites or read long articles, the Razr 40 becomes a window into more content at a glance compared to more traditional format mobile phones. This also makes for a smoother experience.

Finally, when placing the mobile phone at a 90-degree angle, the base acts as a support. Thus, the top part of the screen plays YouTube videos, and the bottom part is used to control playback.

This mode is also useful when taking photographs. You just need to place your phone on a flat surface (remember, it needs to be at a 90-degree angle), tap the timer icon in the camera app, and take your place in the photo.

External display

We have to admit that since it’s much smaller than other overlays, we didn’t have as much faith in the Razr 40’s external display. However, after we tweaked it from the general settings, our opinion changed.

This is a screen measuring just 1.5 inches with a resolution of 194 x 368 pixels, which shares the space with a pair of main optical lenses (64 and 13 MP).

In Settings, you can choose from several watch faces, notifications, and shortcuts for calendar, weather, contacts, media control, voice recorder, and timer. In addition, you have the opportunity to configure the continuation of the call even after closing the smartphone.

The external display also doubles as a viewfinder for taking selfies or videos with the main camera when the phone is folded. To activate this item, you need to press the Power button twice.

What we mean is that the panel does provide a favorable experience: it minimizes the need to use the phone in its full format while trying to somehow identify it when it’s displayed.

First class finish

Like other recent-generation Motorola phones, the Razr 40 is made from vegan leather in a variety of shades. We tested matte gray. This design makes the device easy to use and acts as a remedy for oil on your fingers.

It is a slim cell phone when fully opened (7.35mm) and does not feel like it might slip off. Of course, it’s easy to manipulate both horizontally and vertically (its rounded edges help this too).

Apart from the USB-C charging port, the other external features of the phone are the volume and power buttons located on the right side. The latter has a fingerprint sensor to unlock it.

Ready for action

The Razr 40 promises to seamlessly integrate into your lifestyle while keeping up with you. For this, it has a 4200 mAh battery, which is enough to finish the day without any problems. And when you need to charge it, the 33W TurboPower does all the work (it’s not the brand’s best fast charging, though, nor the standard 20W).

To answer all types of queries, it is powered by a mid-range Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor, which is complemented by 8GB of RAM. Yes, we were able to perform various tasks like browsing all types of websites, playing series from different video streaming services, and taking photos smoothly without any problem.

By the way, the images feature vibrant colors and optimal contrast levels, so you can proudly share them on social networks.

Other Features

Other standout specs of the Razr 40 include 256GB of internal storage, 32MP selfie camera, Android 13, 4K video recording, and 5G and Wi-Fi 6 compatibility.

In this way, the mobile phone ensures optimal downloading of content both at home and when it’s time to go to work or school.
