Honor has a somewhat interesting strategy when launching its line of flagship mobile phones. Unlike other manufacturers who present the entire series at once, the Asian company pays great attention to the “lightweight” model, which is usually the most modest in characteristics and also in price. For example, this year the brand launched Honor Magic 6 Light ahead of the rest of its big brothers (yet to be confirmed, the Magic 6 and 6 Pro).

This is an improved version of Magic 5 Lite, which the company announced last year. It comes with few but interesting new features that aim to improve on the weak points of its predecessor. Hypertext We tested it to see not only whether this Magic 6 Lite is a good generational leap over last year’s model, but also to see if it’s really an option worth considering.

It is important to note that Honor Magic 6 Lite goes on sale for 399 euros; 30 euros more than Magic 5 Lite. However, it includes a new processor, a larger screen, a larger battery, and an improved camera system. But let’s take it piece by piece.

Honor Magic 6 Lite is a mobile phone with which you can enjoy multimedia content.

Speaking on a personal level, in these weeks of using the Honor Magic 6 Lite, what I liked most was its screen and, in general, its performance and battery life. Honor’s new mid-range smartphone has 6.78-inch AMOLED panel with a resolution of 2800 x 1260 pixels. (equivalent to 1.5k; wow, a little more than Full HD+), as well as a dynamic refresh rate of 120 Hz. It’s a bright screen, very clear and with very good color interpretation.

Its size is also ideal for watching videos or playing games, although it has a negative point that is repeated in other Honor phones: the double curvature of the screen. While this gives it an aesthetic similar to that of a high-end mobile phone, it tends to create shadowing around the edges, and is somewhat annoying when the screen produces white colors.

In addition, the screen is complemented by a 5300 mAh battery that does its job well, allowing you to get through the day with heavy use without any problems. All this, in addition, with the first generation Snapdragon 6 processor; one of the latest Qualcomm SoC processors, which coupled with 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage allows you to run any application smoothly.

Honor Magic 6 Lite also stands out in its photography section. In fact, this is another one of the main novelties of this mobile phone. In this case, the company decided to install a 108 megapixel main sensor. It is accompanied by a 5-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, as well as a 2-megapixel macro camera that allows us to capture images from a distance of about four centimeters, so we can focus on the details of objects.

The main camera of the Honor Magic 6 Lite is generally good. Oh well, that’s what you’d expect for the price. Outdoors, it provides precise detail, colorful images and correct exposure. Indoors or when there is little natural light, you can often hear some noise.

The ultra-wide-angle camera passes because in daylight the results are correct, although there is a significant difference in quality compared to the main camera. For example, it tends to create noise in the corners of the image; something that increases significantly in low light or indoor conditions.

Something similar happens with a macro camera. Although this is not actually the sensor you are going to use. Mainly because you’ll likely forget it’s there since you have to go into a specific section of the camera to access this mode. That is, it does not activate automatically when we bring the sensor very close to an object, as happens with other models; which is a bit of a nuisance for the user.

Is Honor Magic 6 Lite worth the money?

Honor Magic 6 Lite, available for 399 euros, It performs almost all its functions. It is a well-finished mobile phone – similar to those we see in mid/high-end or even high-end smartphones – with a very good screen, performance and battery life to match. Although its camera is not the best, it also meets most conditions.

However, Is this mobile phone recommended? Yes, if you are looking for a device primarily for viewing multimedia content. But perhaps not at this price. There are several Magic 6 Lite alternatives that offer similar features (and in some cases even better) and may be a better option. Check out the Poco F5, available on the Xiaomi website for around 379 euros.

So I recommend keeping an eye on this Magic 6 Lite. Mainly because this type of smartphone usually gets cheaper very quickly. After a few months, the price may become more interesting and become a better purchase option. In any case, Honor has once again demonstrated what a generational leap should be like in a smartphone.
