A new American study on cancer point out that old age and smoking are the risk factors that most affect the tumor. The 5-year study included nearly 430,000 people with no cancer problems. It has been confirmed that smoking is one of the factors that most increase the risk of cancer. Greater tendency for men (63%) than women (55%).

Another factor to control in men is the intake of alcohol, family inheritance, red meat consumption and physical inactivity. In women, on the other hand, body mass control, type 2 diabetes, a hysterectomy or tubal ligation. The inheritance of cancer in the family, hypertension and physical inactivity are important. In the five years of the study, the number of cancers diagnosed was 15,226.

Age combined with negative habits pose a major risk to children more than 50. The risk of developing cancer in this age group is more than 2%. The same percentage for people under 50. However, these have different risk factors. They refer to a BMI over 25, a family history of cancer, or people with a past smoking habit.

Our results are encouraging because they help us define the subgroups in the general population that could benefit from improved cancer screening and prevention interventions.
