Google Play Store now accepts Pix in Brazil, Google announced this Wednesday (6). The new payment method allows for instant purchase confirmation, similar to purchases made with a credit card, digital wallet or gift cards.
Now on the Google Play “Payment Methods” screen, Brazilian users will be able to choose Pix from available alternatives — PicPay, Mercado Pago or credit card.
Selecting Pix will take the user to a payment screen with a code or QR code for scanning. You must then go to the bank’s own application to complete the payment.
The code and QR code are valid for three days, so you have enough time to reconsider your purchase if in doubt. It may take up to ten minutes for Google systems to process payment and make purchased items available.
The method is already huge in Brazil
“Pix is the most used service in Brazil, with more than 160 million registered users and a turnover exceeding R$ 15 trillion since its launch in 2020,” Google emphasized.
“By adopting Pix as a payment method, we aim to provide more choices to Brazilians using Google Play, expand access to ways to purchase apps and digital content, and help developers achieve greater success and revenue in the country,” he added.
Currently, the Google Play Store accepts Pix for one-time purchases only. Recurring subscriptions available on the platform cannot yet be paid for with the service.
