Super HDR mode introduced on Galaxy S24 will not be released for older devicesSamsung confirmed this on the company’s official forum. Based on Google’s Ultra HDR feature, the tool makes the change in the brightness of the photo much more noticeable on compatible screens.

The absence of this feature was felt after the launch of One UI 6.1 on the Galaxy S23 and foldable devices released in 2023 (Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5). The function is part of the system but only the top of the line, released in 2024.

According to the moderator of the Samsung Community forum, only the Galaxy S24’s processor and display can support Super HDR.

However, it is unclear what specific additions to the new series make it compatible with the new product. Mobile phones released in 2023 have excellent performance, but it is possible that Samsung has made tweaks to the data flow in the Galaxy S24’s camera system to make this feature possible.

What is Super HDR?

Super HDR is a function inherited from Google’s Android 14, Ultra HDR, but with a different name. This feature allows you to capture images (photos and videos) in Super HDR format, which displays greater brightness separation at different points of the media.

Currently, some social networks such as Instagram are compatible with the format. Thus, users can produce photos richer in contrast and color.
