Sonos is finally redesigning its app: everything you need is now on the home screen

The rumors were true. Sonos announced the launch redesigned applicationfor both mobile phones and the web, to optimize and simplify music playback on your devices, no matter what streaming platform it’s on.

The first thing to note about the new Sonos app is that it says goodbye to the old tabbed and Focuses completely on the main screen. From now on, users will be able to manage everything from there, being able to customize it to the maximum. What does it mean? You can, among other things, set rows with playlists, other content or favorite services, and edit or rearrange them as you wish.

At the bottom of the interface you will see a miniature player and a new search engine for searching songs, albums, playlists, podcasts or audiobooks on any of your connected streaming services. Fun fact: The new Sonos app will let you… select your preferred music platform so that your results are higher than others.

But that is not all. Sonos has also updated its iOS and Android apps to make it easier speaker control installed in our house. If we swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen, we can access the list of devices installed on our system. From here, you can see what’s playing on each one, group them, adjust audio playback volume, monitor battery levels on wireless devices, and add more products to your home setup.

The redesign of the Sonos app will affect more than just the iOS and Android versions. As we mentioned at the beginning, the company decided to launch new web application which will include the same functions. But its arrival will mean the end of support for the desktop versions currently available for Windows and macOS.

Luckily, those looking to try out the new Sonos apps won’t have to wait too long. Both the new web app and updated mobile versions will be available starting next day. May 7.

It’s important to note that the Sonos app will be compatible with all S2 devices. The updated variants for iOS and Android will be available via an update that will be released on the specified date.

With this new release, Sonos says it aims to provide users with a solution in the face of noticeable fragmentation in the streaming content market. Patrick Spence, the company’s CEO, is confident that the new app will be well received by the public, who have been clamoring for an update for some time now. “We believe this updated app is simpler, faster and better. It once again raises the bar for the music experience at home and gives us the opportunity to expand into new categories and experiences,” he said.

Apart from the app redesign, rumors suggest that Sonos will release its first headphones this year. This project has been in development for quite some time, and its main characteristics became known in November last year. We are still waiting for official news on this matter.
