If you are looking for a new phone AndroidIt has a lot of options to consider. Google’s Pixel phones are in better shape than ever, Samsung’s Galaxy S line is killing it, OnePlus is on the rise, and Motorola has some very strong options as well.
Of all the Android phones you’ll have to choose from, there’s a good chance you’re thinking about choosing one. Google Pixel 8 or Samsung Galaxy S24. If you’re looking at both phones and aren’t sure which one is better overall, here are a few reasons why we think you should choose the Samsung phone.
Lighter and more compact design
If you’re looking at the Google Pixel 8 because you prefer smaller phones, then the Samsung Galaxy S24 beats it.
While both phones have a 6.2-inch screen, the Galaxy S24 is slightly shorter and narrower than the Pixel 8, measuring 147 x 70.6 x 7.6 mm (5.79 x 2.78 x 0.30 inches) instead of 150.5 x 70.8 x 8.9 mm (5.93 x 8.9 mm). 2.79 by 0.35 inches). It’s also lighter at 168 grams (5.89 ounces) compared to the Pixel 8’s 187 grams (6.60 ounces).
While it may not seem like much, every little bit counts. As a woman, I constantly have to deal with small pockets in clothes and bags, and my phone is always easier to store when it is smaller.
Plus, I’m used to phones with flat edges, so I find the Galaxy S24 more comfortable to hold, especially for long periods of time. The Pixel 8’s curved edges aren’t as comfortable, although your experience here may vary.
More versatile cameras
The big difference between the Galaxy S24 and Pixel 8 is the cameras each uses. The Google Pixel 8 only has a dual camera system with a 50-megapixel main camera and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, along with a 10.5-megapixel selfie camera. While Pixel phones can take pretty good photos, the Galaxy S24 is much more versatile and better equipped.
Even though the Galaxy S24 is the entry-level model in the S24 lineup alongside the larger S24 Plus and the more expensive S24 Ultra, the regular Galaxy S24 still has a triple-lens camera system. The S24 has a 50MP main camera, a 10MP telephoto camera, and a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera with a 120-degree field of view. For selfies, Samsung uses a 12 MP front camera.
Not only does the Galaxy S24 have a main and ultra-wide-angle camera very similar to the Pixel 8, but it also includes a telephoto lens, which is completely missing from the Pixel 8. Although it is only 10MP, the telephoto lens allows the Galaxy S24 to get 3x optical zoom, which is good , if you want to get some decent close-ups. The Pixel 8 is capable of zooming, but only in digital quality, which typically degrades as you zoom in.
The only thing to keep in mind is the fact that Samsung tends to make colors in photos “pop” by making them a little more saturated. However, Samsung seems to have toned down this issue a bit in the S24 line compared to previous models, so it’s not as big of an issue as it was in the past. However, Google Pixels generally produce more realistic and natural colors. Of course, you can always edit the photos to your liking.
But on the hardware side, Samsung is definitely more versatile with a triple-lens camera system instead of the Pixel’s dual-lens system.
Higher performance, longer battery life
Google Pixel 8 uses Google’s own Tensor G3 chip. While it’s a decent chip that actually performs better than its predecessors, it’s still not as good as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in most new 2024 flagship phones. Remember: Pixel 8 releases in late 2023.
Not only does the Galaxy S24 use the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, but it is also a special edition optimized specifically for Samsung Galaxy devices. The regular Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which can be found in phones like OnePlus 12Provides sufficient power and battery life.
Based on our experience with the S24 line, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy delivers incredible power and performance and is also very energy efficient. All Galaxy S24 devices, including the base S24, can last all day, and some can last on a single charge.
While the Pixel 8’s Tensor G3 handles performance well, battery life isn’t as impressive as the S24. So, if you want an absolutely beast of a processor that can handle anything you throw at it, then the Galaxy S24 is the one for you.
A top-notch display from Samsung.
When it comes to phones, you want a screen that you can use at all times, even in direct sunlight. I live in Southern California where it’s pretty sunny most of the time, so when I’m outside I need my screens to be bright. Otherwise they are practically useless.
The Google Pixel 8 screen reaches a maximum brightness of just 2,000 nits, which is equivalent to a line iPhone 15 from Apple. Although it’s great, the Samsung Galaxy S24 even brighter reaching 2600 nits maximum brightness. It’s not as bright as the OnePlus 12’s 4,500 nits, but it’s still a significant jump over the Pixel 8.
Both phones also have an always-on display, but Samsung also beats Google here, having a dynamic refresh rate range of 1Hz to 120Hz, while the Pixel 8 only has a range of 60Hz to 120Hz. In other words, the S24 has an always-on display. more energy efficient and less demanding on battery life than the Pixel 8.
And let’s not forget about the overall durability of screens. The Google Pixel 8 only uses Gorilla Glass Victus, while the Galaxy S24 uses Gorilla Glass Victus 2. If you’re concerned about durability, the Galaxy S24 will be more resistant to scratches and impacts.
Larger selection of accessories
One of the best ways to personalize your phone is through accessories. While much of the mobile accessory market is dominated by iPhones, Samsung is the second-largest smartphone maker after Apple, so there are a decent number of accessories available.
Simply put, you’re more likely to find a better selection of accessories for the Samsung Galaxy S24 than you are for the Google Pixel 8. I’m not saying there aren’t cases for the Google Pixel 8, but you win. Have not found a lot of options to choose from compared to Samsung Galaxy S24 cases. Or at least there won’t be many great colors and designs to choose from.
I will always be a supporter of the cause as I am a bit clumsy and prone to a lot of shenanigans. I also think it’s the easiest way to express yourself, so I usually choose cases that have a unique design or pattern rather than just plain ones. If you’re like me, you’re sure to find more case options like this one for the Galaxy S24 and Pixel 8.
For example, Spigen, a brand that makes some pretty good cases at reasonable prices, has about 12 cases for the Samsung Galaxy S24, while it only has 10 variants of the Google Pixel 8 Velvet Caviar, making some phone cases and pens very stylish and elegant. , it only offers cases for iPhone and Samsung devices, with no options for Google Pixels. Incipio has three case options for the S24 and only cases for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 lines, so it doesn’t even match the speed of the Pixel 8.
Of course, nothing beats the iPhone in terms of accessories. But Samsung is at least in second place, so if you’re interested in cases and the like, the Galaxy S24 is better than the Google Pixel 8 in this regard.
