Qualcomm announced a new processor that will bring 5G to Xiaomi’s entry-level range. This chip, known as Snapdragon 4s Gen 2, is a smaller version of Snapdragon Gen 4, which will provide faster connections in terminals costing less than 100 euros. Thanks to this, the Chinese manufacturer will be able to offer a feature that has so far been banned in budget mobile phones.

According to Qualcomm, Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 will solve the main drawback of cheap phones. 5G is limited to mid-range and high-end mobile phones, as the most basic chips do not provide such connectivity. With the launch, the company is also aiming to beat MediaTek, which only has 4G in its Helio series.

In terms of performance, the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 is eight-core chip (2x Cortex-A78 @ 2 GHz + 6x Cortex-A55 @ 1.8 GHz) with Adreno GPU and support for 2133 MHz LPDDR4x RAM. Xiaomi mobile phones will have a screen with a maximum resolution of 2220×1080 pixels (FHD+) at 90 Hz and cameras up to 80 MP with image stabilization and noise reduction.

Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 supports download speed up to 1 Gbpshas a bandwidth of up to 100 MHz and will be backward compatible with older networks. The chip also offers other connectivity features such as support Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1.

Xiaomi will be one of the first to adopt Snapdragon 4s Gen 2.
