Google Pixel devices have had Battery Share for some time now, allowing you to wirelessly charge other devices and accessories using a compatible phone. Previously, you could perform this task while charging your phone while it was plugged in. However, with the launch of the series Google Pixel 9You can’t do that anymore. As Android Police discovered, a new Google support page explains that Battery Share is automatically disabled whenever your Pixel 9 is connected to a wired charger. This means you can no longer charge your phone and accessories at the same time. While Google hasn’t confirmed the reason, it’s likely that the change was made to reduce heat and improve the phone’s battery life.

Interestingly, previous Pixel models automatically enabled Battery Share whenever you started charging your phone, saving you time since you didn’t have to manually enable it in the Settings app. Conversely, on these phones, Battery Share soon turns off if you’re not charging an accessory.

This change is minor, especially since using Battery Share while your phone is charging slows down the overall charging speed. Plus, many reviewers have noted that this year’s Pixel has improved battery efficiency, so you’ll spend less time charging your devices anyway. It will be interesting to see if a future software update disables this feature on older Pixel models like the Pixel 8 Pro.
