If you have an iPhone with iOS 18, update it to the latest version as soon as possible. Apple officially introduced iOS 18.0.1and while it doesn’t include new features, it does fix a number of bugs present in the current version.
Specifically, as stated by Apple in the update notes, iOS 18.0.1 fixes touch screen related problems the recently announced iPhone 16 and 16 Pro, cameras and Messages apps. This, of course, includes fixes for small bugs and bugs present in iOS 18 that users have reported in recent weeks.
The display fix is due to the fact that in iOS 18, the touchpad on the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro sometimes became temporarily unresponsive to touch. Additionally, the iPhone 16 Pro’s camera completely frozen if users were recording macro videos using the ultra-wide camera, in 4K and with HDR enabled. On the other hand, the Messages app would temporarily stop when a user sent a message using the Apple Watch watch face—remember, they can be shared via Messages for some time now.
Finally iOS 18.0.1 also fixes a performance bug “there is an issue with memory allocation on some iPhone models”, says Apple.
Unfortunately, we repeat, iOS 18.0.1 contains no new features. We’ll have to wait for iOS 18.1 to be able to take advantage of some of the features of Apple Intelligence, the company’s suite of artificial intelligence tools. Improvements to Siri, as well as other more advanced AI features, won’t be available until early next year.
How to update iPhone to iOS 18.0.1
While many of the improvements in iOS 18.0.1 are intended for the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro, anyone can update to this version. In fact, this is highly recommended because, as we already mentioned, it also includes minor improvements and bug fixes. To update, simply follow these steps.
- Go to Settings on your iPhone
- In the General section, click on “System update”.
- Make sure iOS 18.0.1 is available for download and installation and click Install.
Remember that you must have enough internal memory. Fortunately, the update doesn’t take too long. You’ll also need to have at least 50% battery, although it’s best to connect your iPhone to a charger before completing installation.
