11 years ago Apple introduced a device with a design that everyone hated but I loved.
It’s been 11 years since its release and it’s still a design I’m in love with.
Apple often surprises with the design of its devices; This is something we have seen many times. But 11 years ago the company launched something totally unique that amazes me. It was a computer that was widely criticized for its design, but for me it is one of the best of all time.
This bold and special design, 2013 MacPro. For the first time, the Mac Pro stopped being a tower and became a kind of glossy black cylinder that many nicknamed the “trash can”. However, it must be admitted that such a computer has never been seen before and probably nothing similar will be seen again.
The 2013 Mac Pro had a unique design
Presented during the 2013 World Developers Conference, Radically changed the Mac Pro design. Apple said this device “represents our vision for the future of professional computing; we’ve reinvented it from the ground up. Nothing like it has ever been seen before.” And they weren’t lying.
The cylindrical design was something completely new, just as internal arrangement of different components. All parts of the Mac Pro are mounted around a central thermal distribution core, cooled by a single fan that draws air from the base up.
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – October 22, 2013 – Apple has redefined professional computing with the launch of the new Mac Pro. Designed around an innovative unified thermal core, the Mac Pro includes Intel’s latest Xeon processors with up to 12 cores, two of which are high. performance GPUs, six Thunderbolt 2 ports, PCIe-based flash storage, and ultra-fast ECC memory.
Apple has assured us that this Mac Pro : double the power of the previous generationThanks to its Intel Xeon processor and AMD FirePro GPU, Occupying only one-eighth of its volume. But the design had a serious problem: With no built-in expansion slots, expansion units had to be connected via Thunderbolt 2 ports.
This means that the main target audience is More professional users could not easily expand the devicethis resulted in the product being condemned. So Apple admitted that the design wasn’t quite right and changed it completely years later, returning to the current tower-shaped design for the Mac Pro.
Despite this I believe The problem wasn’t the design itself.I find this nice, but because I’m using it on the wrong computer. Professionals don’t need a beautiful computer, they need a practical one, and this design did not fit those needs.
Yes Apple would use this design in the Mac mini, even if it was smallerI have no doubt that it will be successful. It may even have influenced the current design of the Mac mini. The problem was that it limited expansion options for professionals who often needed it over time.
