I love special edition smartphones, but they are quite difficult to get right. Some of them don’t make much sense, while others are surprisingly unusual but truly niche collaborations.

Fortunately, the publication iron man Poco’s new X7 Pro hits the mark with its formula. Announced in CES 2025I had the opportunity to see it in person and it’s fantastic.

Few people could go crazy with design, but they restrained themselves (slightly) and created something eye-catching, but not too much ridiculous. At the heart of it all is the “embossing” (a design technique that makes a flat image appear three-dimensional) of Iron Man’s famous helmet on the back of the phone, which is so effective that you’ll immediately run your finger over it, expecting to feel it raised. above the back of the phone. A helmet emboss surrounds Iron Man’s Arc Reactor design, while the Avengers logo sits at the bottom of the phone.

The photos don’t do the colors and design justice as it’s even brighter in person and I love the mix of matte to gloss finishes as well as the clever use of gold accents. The special gift box includes a case, both covered in fun references to the Iron Man character, which doesn’t fundamentally hide the fantastic details on the back of the phone, but will still provide important corner protection in case of a drop. fall It’s also nice to see the X7 Pro’s IP68 dust and water resistance rating.

The day the Poco X7 Pro – Iron Man Edition was announced, I picked it up to see what people immersed in the world of comics and collectibles thought. Kate Miwk, owner of Miwk Books, not only thought the phone would be a valuable collector’s item, but said she would “definitely be using it,” even after spending a few minutes scrolling through the menu and looking at the Iron Man design. As a tech journalist, I say it’s cool, but it’s even better when someone who works in the world of comics and collectibles agrees with it. This shows that Poco has done something special here.

Not much went right with the design of the Iron Man Edition, but what about the technology? The Poco X7 Pro is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8400 Ultra processor, a chip announced in late December 2024, making it one of the first phones to use it. It comes with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage and is backed by a massive 6,000mAh battery with Poco’s HyperCharge fast charging feature that allows it to go from zero to 100% in about 42 minutes.

On the front, there is a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and Corning Gorilla Glass 7i on top that displays Android 15 and Xiaomi HyperOS interface. The software has also been updated in Iron Man style with custom wallpapers and specially designed icons. This is a typical Poco look as its popular gaming phones always have a rich, colorful and very stylized Android look.

There are two cameras on the back: a 50-megapixel Sony IMX882 with optical image stabilization (OIS) and an 8-megapixel wide-angle camera. On the front there is a 20 MP selfie camera. Other features of the X7 Pro include an in-display fingerprint sensor, dual speakers, Bluetooth 5.4, 5G connectivity and face unlock.

Should I buy one?

I haven’t spent enough time with the Poco X7 Pro to fully evaluate it, but it’s clear that the processor makes loaded Poco software respond smoothly and quickly, and the screen is plenty colorful and bright. However, I’m very impressed with the design of the Iron Man Edition because it’s not completely crazy, but rather well thought out and intelligently executed.

Will this be Poco’s first Marvel-themed phone, where we can one day create our own Avengers team using only the special edition models? Whatever happens, the Iron Man Edition is a great start and one of the most desirable special edition smartphones I’ve seen in a long time.
