Say goodbye to Apple TV+. To everyone’s surprise, Apple has decided to change the name of its streaming platform for movies, TV series and sporting events. However, you should not pin your hopes on a modification that is too risky, because from now on the service will simply be called AppleTV.
In this case, Apple appears to have taken a cue from Google when it came to renaming Apple TV+. Let’s not forget that Mountain View has created a nightmare catalog with Gemini, a name that identifies both its artificial intelligence assistant, its dedicated application, and the language models that drive it.
Something similar is happening with Apple TV. From now on, the platform will share the same name with the Apple TV app and the Apple TV device.. So prepare for some confusion and headaches until you get used to this solution.
Another notable thing is how Apple representatives decided to communicate the Apple TV change. The company announced the change in a press release, saying that F1: Moviedebuts on streaming December 12 next year. The change is also seen in the X (Twitter) post dedicated to the film.
In the last paragraph of the ad, Cupertino residents mentioned: “Apple TV+ is now just Apple TV with a bold new personality.”. This means that in addition to excluding + or plus name, it is unknown what the “bright new identity” the company promises is.
Apple TV+ becomes Apple TV without further ado
To some extent, the name change is consistent. After all, Apple TV+ already existed in the Apple TV app. It is curious that the updated name has not yet been applied on the Apple website.. As of this writing, all references to the platform on Apple websites retain the old name.
Not only that, but upon entering tv.apple.comwhich provides access to the web version of the platform, it still shows up as Apple TV+. It’s logical to think that the change can be implemented gradually, over a period of hours, but it is still noticeable. Especially when we are talking about a company that pays the same attention to detail as Apple.
It will be interesting to see how the public reacts to the transition from Apple TV+ to Apple TV. Also, if this could be a sign of future changes in other services offered from Cupertino that also bear this name plus (Fitness+, News+, iCloud+). At the moment there is no news on this matter.
