Two of Apple’s most powerful Macs just got even more powerful. The company from Cupertino announced an update 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro, which first appeared in October 2021 with a completely redesigned design, as well as M1 Pro and M1 Max chips. New second generation models now include a new M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, which offer various benefits and improvements over the SoCs announced last year. They also include the most outstanding features of the Pro line, such as the ProMotion screen, HDMI port or slot for SD cards, as well as other new features such as Wi-FI 6E support.
Aesthetically, the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros are identical to the models announced last year. They support this flatter format compared to the M2-chip MacBook Pro and also include the aforementioned ports: HDMI connector and micro SD card tray, which are complemented by three USB-C ports and a MagSafe connector for charging. The screen also retains not only the notch that Apple first introduced with the M1, but the rest of its features as well.
Thus, we find ourselves with 14″ or 16″ Mini Liquid Retina XDR LED Panel, with resolutions of 3024 x 1964 and 3456 x 2234, respectively. They include, on the other hand, ProMotion Technologywhich is capable of offering a variable refresh rate that jumps up to 120Hz when the screen detects activity and can drop to 1GHz when the content being played doesn’t require movement.
As are the new M2 Pro and M2 Max that ship with the MacBook Pro.
Thus, the main novelty lies in performance, or rather in new processors. 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros now feature M2 Pro and M2 Max chipstwo SoCs made on a 3nm process that improve both performance and energy efficiency compared to the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips.
In particular, the M2 Pro has CPU up to 12 cores and GPU up to 19 cores, and supports up to 32 GB of combined memory. M2 Max, for its part, supports this 18-core processor, but with GPU up to 38 cores and combined memory up to 96 GB.
They all come with 512GB of base storage, with SSD storage expandable up to 8TB, regardless of processor model.
Up to 22 hours of battery life
The new processors also make the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros more battery-powered than their predecessors. The larger model now offers up to 18 hours of video playback and 12 hours of web browsing over Wi-Fi, compared to 17 and 11 hours respectively for the 2021 model.
16-inch MacBook Pro reaches 22 hours of video playback and 15 hours of web browsing. So that’s 1 hour more than the M1 offered in terms of video playback and web browsing over a wireless connection.
