A screensaver, a case, and even some apps personalize your phone, yes, but what really makes it unique is the number. IMEI (HeyInternational mabundance ANDequipment Heypersonality), something like an identity card or the official identification number of your mobile phone. It’s not just a number, but a key to accessing all kinds of device history data, from manufacturer details to whether theft was reported. And you? Do you know what is yours? On an Android phone
On an Android phone, you can also find the IMEI in the settings menu. Usually it will be in:
- Settings > About phone > Status
- Settings > General > About device > Status
- Settings > System > About phone > Status
- Settings > About device > Status
From here, enter a number or take a screenshot.
on iPhone
You can find the IMEI of your iPhone in different places, in the settings, in the phone itself, in Finder or iTunes, except for the original box. You can usually find it at:
- Settings > General > About.
Scroll down and find the IMEI entry in the list. You can also touch and hold a number to copy it to your clipboard and then paste it somewhere else, such as the Notes app.
Find your iPhone’s IMEI number through your Apple account.
- Go to appleid.apple.com in Safari on Mac.
- Sign in with your Apple ID.
- Scroll down until you see the serial number and IMEI/MEID under Devices and select your device.
- If you have a device running iOS 10.3 or later associated with your account, such as an iPad, you should go to Settings > [Tu nombre].
- Scroll until you see any device you are signed in to with your Apple ID, check the device name to see the serial number and IMEI/MEID.
You can also find your device’s serial number via Seeker or itunes.
- Connect your device to your computer.
- On a Mac with macOS Catalina 10.15 or later, launch Finder. On a Mac with macOS Mojave 10.14 or earlier, or on a PC, open iTunes. Now find your device.
- Select on the tab Summary to view information.
- Press Phone numberunder the device name or model to find the IMEI/MEID and ICCID numbers.
You can also find it on Settings > Apple ID > iPhone.
Other Ways to Check IMEI Number
Some devices show IMEI in the SIM card tray. According to Apple, you can see the IMEI number in the SIM card slot starting with the iPhone 6S models, with the exception of the first generation SE. Some Samsung Galaxy devices display their IMEI on the back in small, almost translucent letters, so you’ll need magnifying glasses to read them, and even then you’ll have a hard time. In older phones and phones with removable batteries, the IMEI is often listed below the battery, usually at the top of the SIM card slot.
How to check IMEI if you lost your phone
If your iPhone or Android phone was stolen and you forgot to check and write down the IMEI number, there is a chance you can find it. If you have kept the box it was in when you bought it, you can find a sticker on the outside showing the IMEI number.
Use phone dialer
To find out the IMEI number, dial *#06#. After you enter this code on your phone keypad, you will get a popup containing your IMEI number and other important information about your phone. You can save this information in two ways, such as writing it down in a notepad or saving it as an image or document.
This method seems to be deprecated, although it sometimes works. It used to be a universal way to check IMEI on both iPhone and Android. The problem is that it doesn’t work as well as it used to. In three of the four phones tested, only one (Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus 2016) performed as expected. Neither the iPhone nor the LG V40 ThinQ received a number after dialing the code. Apple’s instructions don’t include this method either. Therefore, we refer to this as a historical decision and as a last resort.
