Samsung continues to lead the foldable smartphone market and is now moving fast to launch three-piece “split” phones. The company recently filed a new patent application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), revealing possible complexities in the design and operation of such devices.

The footage shows a phone and a device that uses two hinges to fold its large OLED screen into three equal-sized segments that form a “zigzag.” The device can be converted from a tablet to a compact smartphone, allowing you to turn it into a smaller device while traveling.

The patent describes the use of sensors and chips on the device’s hinges to tune the operating system’s user interface. If the hinges are open, the sensors will relay this information to the processor, which will display the UI elements on all parts of the screen.

Launch of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5

According to the information on the special website WCCFTechThe launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 will be delayed to July, a month earlier than expected. The larger foldable should launch in versions starting at $1,799,

This may be Samsung’s strategy to face the competition, as rumors have suggested that Google will launch its first foldable mobile phone, the Pixel Fold, during Google I/O 2023 on May 10. In addition, Motorola plans to launch a similar device this year.

Samsung’s new folding devices will be equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, the most powerful processor today, and more durable hinges.
