The government has launched a strategic project aimed at attracting the attention of the world’s largest microchip investors to Spain through significant investment. more than 12,000 million euros.
And the fact is that the technological transformation of the Spanish industry is currently making it attractive for investment in the strategic semiconductor sector. After the meeting of the Council of Ministers, the First Vice-President and Minister of Economy, Nadia Calvinoannounced the details of this PERTE.
The government explains that the purpose of this PERTE is to develop the design and manufacturing capabilities of the Spanish microelectronics and semiconductor industry from the value chain to the design and manufacture of microchips.
However, the Prime Minister Pedro Sanchezpresents this project at the World Economic Forum in Davos, where she is looking for potential investors, and in fact has already met with leading companies such as Intel, Qualcomm, Micron and Cisco.
Specifically, this PERTE will be split along four main axes: strengthening scientific training, design strategy, production strategy, and finally the strategy of strengthening the information and communication technology industry.
The first axle is intended strengthen scientific capacity by developing microprocessor R&Dquantum chips or even integrated photonics.
The second concerns the design strategy in terms of where a plant for the development of microprocessors with an alternative architecture will be created.
The third axis puts the construction of manufacturing plants on the table. with capacitance both below and above 5 nm.
And finally, the fourth axis rotates around revival of the European technology and communications industry for example, creating a chip fund to scale startups.
