The end of ‘Stranger Things’ season 4 could be a major issue for Netflix

It appears that Netflix, in an attempt to win back believers, is evaluating the possibility of not publishing full episodes after the season is out.

This is what we recently got to see in the Stranger Things season 4 premiere on May 27th.

Investors question Netflix’s ability to cope with the loss of subscribers and growing competition in the streaming space. Streamer stocks have plummeted over the past year from $700 per share to about $160.

The company also reported a loss of 200,000 global subscribers in its first-quarter earnings report in April.

With all of this on the table, the platform is looking for ways to attract new subscribers and, in turn, retain existing ones. Although he did not confirm the end of the overeating, he did indicate that splitting seasons in two can be a nice long experience for subscribers.

“One of the reasons they started overeating was to get people to talk and really run their new original programs. They succeeded. But now it’s a completely different case.” explains Robert Thompson, professor at Syracuse University and pop culture expert.

On such platforms Disney+ or HBO Max, episode premieres keep viewers hooked within a few weeks, which means that these subscribers will be “locked” to your platform.

On the other hand, Netflix subscribers can watch the entire season of the show they are interested in, and then leave service at the end of the month and it doesn’t seem like it in this situation. However, this is a special moment that this platform has, and perhaps the change could have an even more negative impact.

Now, Netflix’s “all at once” strategy may set it apart from other streaming services, but that also means it has to increase content release volume to fill gaps between series.

That’s why Netflix tried divide the seasons in half or into parts to distribute them. The fourth and final season of Ozark was split into two parts, as was the final season of Stranger Things. The final two episodes of the series’ fourth season (including its two-hour finale) will begin airing on July 1.

That being said, we’ll see if he continues with phased releases to determine if there are other series that would benefit from this strategy, or alternatively, he decides to go full circle and join the competition.
