Low emission zones (ZBE) is an aspect that more and more cities need to consider in order to reduce pollution in the city center where more carbon dioxide is concentrated, if we are talking about Spain, which has a negative impact. to everyone’s health.

And the fact is that not so long ago in Europe they seriously approached this issue, forcing cities with more than 50,000 inhabitants to limit the relatively large area of the center cities where only less polluting vehicles and residents can move around, subjecting themselves to fines if they don’t comply. All this until 2023, so time is against many.

At ComputerHoy, we have already explained what the stickers you have to put on your car based on its emissions consist of, and how it will affect you when entering these ZBEs, as well as possible fines.

The problem we are now discovering is that initially only 1 out of 4 cars will be able to move around the city center without problems. And the rest? this is the doubt.

Apparently, One of the solutions that is presented in the short term is the modality of leasing vehicles (rent). This may be a solution for some drivers as they seek to reduce their carbon footprint.

Currently, and according to AER (Spanish Association for Rental Vehicles), 1 out of every 4 registrations that occur in our country comes from this system. Thus, today more than 600,000 cars ply our roads.

“However, this change must be accompanied by infrastructure improvements, such as recharging, as it is estimated that in municipalities with a population of more than 20,000, almost 40,000 places need to be electrified,” explains Iñigo Breña, director of Rentingcoches.com.

DGT labels banned in low emission areas (ZBE)

First of all, please clarify that currently and in Madrid, cars without an environmental sticker can only drive on the M-30, but not enter it.

This measure is exempt for residents, but from 2023 the measure is being tightened and they will also not be able to travel on the aforementioned M-30; from 2024, all roads within the territorial zone of Madrid will be banned; and from 2025, even residents will not be able to move around.

Now let’s go piecemeal and Let’s see which labels are currently banned from ZBE.

Vehicles with Eco Label B or C: They may only enter the park unless they are guest vehicles, permitted residents, people with reduced mobility, essential services, etc.

Vehicles without a sticker, corresponding to petrol vehicles up to 2000 and diesel vehicles up to 2006, they won’t be able to access If they are not registered at their place of residence, they transport people with limited mobility, in some cases these are heavy vehicles or essential services.
