According to science, there is no accurate theory yet on how to go back to the past, so current evidence only suggests that time travel to the future may be possible. In a new study published in the preprint journal arXiv, A team of researchers details how they used the internet to search for clues to the existence of some kind of time traveler.
Although it is a poorly understood concept, the researchers’ goal was to search for any evidence of time travelers from the future. They even considered the possibility that these would-be travelers might try to cover their tracks to avoid being discovered.
The late physicist and theorist Stephen Hawking had tried to discover the existence of time travelers. In June 2009, the scientist conducted an experiment to find out if time travel was possible, by hosting a ‘party’ where only people who had traveled in time would know it had happened. Hawking said that no one had come forward to confirm the theory.
“Time travel has captured the public imagination for much of the last century, but little has actually been done to search for time travelers. Here are three applications of Internet searches for time travelers, all of which aim to provide insightful accounts of previously unavailable information.”
Internet time travelers?
The scientists’ plan focused on three parts: searching for specific terms on X (formerly Twitter), queries on a specific search engine, and requesting direct access to the internet ahead of the query time. As the article suggests, This is perhaps the most comprehensive study on the subject.
It would be incredible to find such evidence, but not this time. The researchers said they did not find any tweets, emails or other information that could confirm the existence of time travelers. In any case, scientists will continue to try to understand the possibility of time travel.
“The negative results reported here suggest that time travelers from the future are not among us and cannot communicate with us over the modern internet, but they are by no means proof of this. There are several reasons for this. First, it is physically impossible for time travelers to leave a permanent trace of their presence in the past, including even a trace of non-corporeal information on the internet,” the study concludes.
