Brazilians who are passionate about astronomy will be able to watch another show in the sky this week. This is because on Tuesday night (17), The partial lunar eclipse of the Super Moon will be visible in the sky.
This phenomenon can be observed in most of Africa, Europe, the southern and eastern parts of North America, all of South America, and parts of Antarctica.
Fortunately, Brazilians will also be able to see the eclipse, depending on weather conditions in each region. Check out the lunar eclipse schedule below (Brasília time):
- The penumbral eclipse will begin at 21:41.
- The partial eclipse will begin at 23:12.
- Maximum partial eclipse at 23:44.
- The partial eclipse will end early on the 18th at 00:15
- The end of the penumbral eclipse is at 01:47 on the 18th
According to the program, this event is expected to last about four hours and end only in the early hours of Wednesday (18).
A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth aligns between the Sun and the Moon and casts its shadow across the moon. Since it is partial, only a small portion of the Moon will enter the umbra, with the rest still visible.
It is also worth remembering that, unlike a solar eclipse, a lunar eclipse can be observed without the need for special care or special equipment.
Eclipse live broadcast
If the sky is overcast in your area, don’t worry. For those who won’t be able to observe this phenomenon, the National Observatory (ON), a research unit of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), will be broadcasting the astronomical event on its YouTube channel.
The live broadcast will start at 9:00 PM on Tuesday the 17th and will be moderated by ON astronomer Josina Nascimento, director of the Department of Science Communication and Popularization (DICOP/ON).
