Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AEMPS) recalled from the market the product sold as aphrodisiac of natural origin, which actually contains Viagra undeclared. We are talking about Max Ero Plusa supposed herbal paste sold in sachet form.

The brand states that it consists of an herb called horny goat weed. Despite the obviously comical name (horned goat grass), this is a real plant that is endowed with aphrodisiac properties. Leaving aside the little scientific evidence for these properties, the reality is that in principle the plant is not dangerous to eat. The problem is that Max Ero Plus contains Viagra and can be harmful.

As AEMPS explains, sildenafil is present in sufficient quantities to provide pharmacological actiontherefore, it should be declared as a medicine. However, this aphrodisiac is sold as a supplement, which does not require a prescription. This is the reason for its withdrawal. Let’s now look at what the risks are.

It is now believed that it may be beneficial for the latter due to its content of a flavonoid called icariin. This may affect the cellular mechanisms that lead to erectile dysfunction. However, more research is needed to find out if this is true. The same thing happens with increased libidoThere is insufficient evidence to suggest that it has any significant benefits in this regard, making its use as an aphrodisiac rather controversial.

People love this aphrodisiac, but they don’t know what Viagra contains.

According to AEMPS, sildenafil contraindicated in patients with acute myocardial infarction, unstable angina, angina, heart failure, uncontrolled arrhythmias, arterial hypotension (blood pressure <90/50 mmHg), uncontrolled arterial hypertension and previous cerebral ischemic attack (ischemic stroke). It is also not recommended for patients with severe liver failure and people with non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy or hereditary degenerative retinal diseases such as retinitis pigmentosa.

And that’s not all. There are also numerous interaction with other drugs and may cause adverse reactions of varying severity, such as cardiovascular reactions, as its consumption has been associated with acute myocardial infarction, unstable angina, ventricular arrhythmia, palpitations, tachycardia, cerebrovascular accidents, and even sudden cardiac death. The latter were observed to a greater extent in patients with a history of cardiovascular risk factors.

None of this is listed on the aphrodisiac’s package insert, as it is assumed to be nothing more than a supplement. But its use is dangerous for many people. For this reason, the Ministry of Health has no hesitation remove all units from the marketIf you have it at home, do not use it. It is not just a herbal paste.
