Qualcomm’s new smartwatch-optimized chip competes with Exynos on the popular Galaxy Watch 4.

As with smartphones, it’s one thing for the brand that makes the phone, and another for the company that develops the processor that gives it life. In the first paragraph there are dozens of brands (Apple, Xiaomi, Samsung, Google, Oppo…), and in the second the list is shortened.

And while it sounds like they can relax, Qualcomm knows firsthand that once you stop pushing, you get pushed. This is what happened with MediaTek Dimensity in the smartphone market. and he doesn’t want that to happen in smartwatches now, hence his new chip.

The smartwatch SoC was announced via Twitter, where you gave us a teaser of the chip that will give life to the most powerful smartwatches of 2022 and 2023.

Currently, the company’s most advanced processor is the Snapdragon Wear 4100+, which is built on a 12nm process and includes a new co-processor to help handle additional background tasks such as touch input and audio.

This SoC brought performance and battery improvements over the Snapdragon Wear 3100 platform.

Therefore, we expect to see something similar to the Samsung Exynos W920 (5nm) SoC.but it’s hard to predict Qualcomm’s next move with wearables.

Given Google’s new emphasis on Wear OS, perhaps this is what will move the platform forward, as many Wear OS devices prior to version 3.0 feature Snapdragon Wear platforms.

All we know is that a new wearable chip is coming to market from Qualcomm. We don’t know which manufacturers will use it, or when it will hit the market, or its specs until Qualcomm makes an official announcement. It will be soon.
