The new public beta of tvOS 16meaning you can download it and get early access to new features that will be in an official release later this year, but the password is “could” – yes it would be possible to access the beta and those features , but that might be a bad idea.

“Beta” versions of software are early, incomplete versions of updates designed to be tested so developers can see where bugs, crashes, and other weird things happen when software is exposed to the real world, rather than just in a development environment. Developers use beta versions of the software for: test their apps or try new features before updates reach everyone so they can detect any issues before they spread.

But Apple also makes beta versions available to all regular users of devices who dare to try them, and mostly in the case of software like iOS 16 or iPadOS 16, people want to do this so they can try out the great new features as soon as possible, and Apple is getting helpful feedback as a result. But there is a fundamental rule about beta software: never install it on your primary device, this is because it is possible for the beta software to delete data from a device, rendering it totally useless, and often there is no way to know if this is a danger or not until it happens.

People who are fond of iPhone fans often have an old phone lying around so they can test iOS 16 on their backup phone. So it would already be inadvisable just install tvOS 16 for security reasons, and besides this update it doesn’t have any great new features worth checking out anyway. The problem with tvOS 16 is that it hasn’t changed as of yet, meaning it might not really be worth installing on your device before its official release.
