Driving a car at high speed maybe it’s an adrenaline rush, but it’s also ridiculous recklessness when lives at stakeand not just a scorcher.

As the Fundación Línea Directa reports in its study “Speed, the silent scourge. Speeding in fatal crashes in Spain”, which reaches us through Auto Bild, Over 1 million Spaniards have admitted to having once traveled at over 200 km/h. At least 43% of the respondents.

But this is not the only frightening fact of the survey. For example, More than 2.4 million drivers admit to driving at speeds over 100 km/h in urban areas.

According to our colleague Noelia Lopez from Auto Bild, only 6% of drivers say they know the speed limits. Thus, about 3.5 million Spaniards could have committed a crime without knowing it. Although it is obvious that when you drive at such speeds, you perfectly understand that you are breaking the law.

The report also states that Profile of a driver affected by speeding It’s from young person between the ages of 18 and 34who is on vacation or free time and wears a helmet or seat belt less.

The communities with the highest number of offenders are Castile-La Mancha, La Rioja and Aragon. On the opposite side are the Canary Islands, the region of Murcia and the Balearic Islands.

Many drivers take it as a game or a challenge, but the statistics show that it is a drama: over 150,000 people have been injured in the last 10 years for a traffic accident caused by speeding, and More than 4500 people died.

Eliminate speed limits

Despite the data 1.7 million drivers are in favor of decriminalizing speed limits. Over a million would remove them directly. 70% believe that fines also have a purpose of collectionand not just to reduce accidents.

Finally, 36% of drivers vote to place radars only in high-risk areas.

This is very discouraging data, which goes against the UN recommendations to reduce the speed limit by another 20%.
