Amazon will soon close its cloud storage service Amazon Drive. The company has announced that the service will be discontinued in 2023. Instead, Amazon Photos, the cloud service for photos – which is also included in the Amazon Prime subscription – will remain active.

Amazon Drive was born as a bigger service. An alternative to Google Drive and Dropbox to conveniently store images in the cloud, yes, but also documents and other files. Amazon Drive was first unveiled in March 2011. After 12 years of faithful service, it will close its doors forever.

It’s not clear why Amazon has decided to pull the plug on cloud storage. It probably wouldn’t have been able to reach a high enough number of users to continue justifying its existence.

As of January 31, 2023, Amazon Drive will no longer allow the uploading of new content. Users have almost exactly one year to secure their content. Yes, because from December 31, 2023, it will no longer be possible to view and download documents and photos stored in the cloud.

“We will continue to provide customers with the ability to securely back up, share, and organize their photos and videos with Amazon Photosthe company promised.

That’s not the only bad news from Amazon. Recently, the company has raised that the price of Amazon Prime will also increase in Italy.
