Launched last October, the Apple’s updated MacBook Pro with M1 Pro and M1 Max chips are equipped with Liquid Retina XDR displays with ProMotion technology for adaptive refresh rates from 24 Hz to 120 Hz. When viewing a static web page that does not require a high refresh rate, the MacBook Pro display adopts a lower refresh rate to extend the life of battery life, but when gaming, scrolling, or other activities where a higher refresh rate results in smoother content.

According to Mozilla’s release notes, the latest Firefox 103 update offers improved display performance that includes frequencies of . can deliver update above 120 Hzsuggesting that 14- and 16-inch Macs with Promotion they will benefit. As some readers will recall, right after Apple launched the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with Apple Silicon last October, many users started reporting jerky issues while browsing in Apple’s Safari.

That’s why anyone who isn’t yet convinced they’re seeing optimal refresh rates in Safari now has at least one alternative option to use a browser that should be able to run ProMotion at full capacity.

Firefox 103 also offers improved responsiveness on macOS during periods of high CPU load, which is achieved by switching to a modern blocking API, according to the release notes. Also new in this update is the ability to change the font size of subtitles directly from a Picture-in-Picture window, as well as support for subtitles on platforms including Funimation, Dailymotion, Tubi, Hotstar and SonyLIV.
