According to information published by the American website Electrek, Tesla company is testing the next version of the solar roof at employees’ homes. The expectation is that if the tests go well, the product will be announced later this year.
It is not yet known what new features Solar Roof 3.5 brings compared to the previous version. The company was improving durability and ease of installation in previous versions.
A Solar Roof is a roof with built-in photovoltaic cells. When used in civil construction, they help generate clean electrical energy. At launch, the product was expected to accelerate the domestic energy transition in the United States.
Elon Musk even announced that the company will produce 1,000 new roofs per week, but the company has always lagged far behind this target. According to the Electrek website, only 23 roofs were delivered per week on average.
Tesla has even stopped planning for new installations of the product, but it should resume service from the fourth half. It seems that the multinational company is planning to restart its activities with the new version of the product.
In 2016, the first version of Solar Roof was announced, which went through various modifications and reached its final model in 2019. The product, which started production in March 2020, is only available in the American market for now.
