Wave energy generator that promises to be the cheapest and cleanest in the future

The search for new forms of clean, sustainable and useful energy does not stop, and today we present you a novelty created by the hands of Sea Wave Energy Ltd (SWEL), a company that has been operating in waveform device.

The point is that, of course, we find ourselves in an environment that, despite being frankly difficult and time-consuming work, can provide great benefits in terms of energy at low cost, since waves in all their splendor conceal a huge source of energy behind them.

Tidal power is one of the oldest renewable sources of energy, but its difficulties mean it is often forgotten. But this does not mean that there are no innovative and interesting proposals. A year ago, we told you about the most powerful tidal turbine in the world, according to its own developers.

Today we will talk about SWEL and its Waveline Magnet prototypes. After several tests, this company assures that we are dealing with a device very low cost with high performance. As for the design, we have long modular chains of plastic floats, designed to land on the water. We leave you a picture to give you an idea.

According to NewAtlas, It works like this: the swell causes a tortuous movement of the floats, which are attached to rigid, non-floating rods with levers (red rods).

The floats move with the waves, the spine remains relatively stationary, and the levers drive the electrical generators inside the spine. The energy generated can be sent ashore via cable or used directly for offshore consumption.

The great advantage of this prototype, apart from the obvious ones already mentioned, is that can be built entirely from recycled materialsand its impact on marine life and the seabed should be minimal.

SWEL claims that “one wave line will have a power rating of more than 100 MW under power supply conditions.” “We can show how a commercial-scale device using our technology will achieve a Levelized Cost of Energy (LCoE) of less than 1 cent/kWh, surpassing the current wave energy benchmark of 85 cents/kWh.” …”

If all this turns out to be true would mean that such a system produces energy at less than half the cost of solar and wind power.. It will surpass gas, coal, nuclear energy, geothermal energy and any other energy production system at the moment.

Be very careful, however, as SWEL still claims to continue to run tests and collect data, so let’s take the latter with a grain of salt. We’re only ahead of the promises and the latest tests that we all have access to show fairly short and normal results.

If SWEL delivers on them, we will face the clean energy revolution that the planet certainly needs. In the meantime, let us be somewhat skeptical about this system.
